New construction slab planning checklist
Settle on the finished floor you want before the pour and before other trades come in.

[ ] Confirm the finish you want: stained and sealed, mechanically polished, epoxy coated or an overlay. List the rooms and how each one gets used.

[ ] Go over the slab design, joints and structural needs with the designer in charge. A decorative finish doesn't replace that design.

[ ] Note the planned finishing and curing methods. Check that a curing product works with the later finish before you pick it. Don't skip needed curing to make staining easier.

[ ] Agree on a sample that shows the real look, and on how patches, joints and natural variation will be judged.

[ ] Decide who protects the slab from glue, paint, markings, spills and damage from other trades.

[ ] Before installation, list the slab tests needed and the limits each product sets.

[ ] Plan access, power, water, ventilation, temperature and the schedule between trades.
